The Carnival came to Pentre Mawr!

Do you have a crazy idea that you want to make a reality for your Wedding day? Just ask!

If you decide to have your special day at Pentre Mawr, we want it to feel like your home for the time that you’re with us. As Bre always says, ‘if it is legal and possible… the answer is yes!’, and we will do our very best to make it happen.

This past weekend has been no exception. Our lovely bride and groom, Sarah and Dan, decided to jam-pack their wedding with carnival rides and lawn games. With a Ferris wheel, swing boats, high striker, crêpe stall, falconer, fish and chips van, hook-a-duck and fire dancers, the result was incredible. Have a look at our time-lapse below and some fun pictures from the day.

A time-lapse of the fun in action!
Tooley’s Amusements sparking some healthy competition with the high striker!
Bring The Fire Project performing their incredible Fire Dancing in our Courtyard.
The lads from Original Crêpes were great, and we can vouch the crêpes are delicious!
Richard the Falconer and his wonderful Owl!

It was no mean feat getting a full-size ferris wheel down our country lanes… but where there is a will, there is a way! And here at Pentre Mawr, our staff love to go above and beyond to make your vision come true. Take a look at the snaps of the set up and end result below.

A bit of a squeeze!  A special thanks to John Bagnall and his driving skills.

If you would like your very own carnival wedding, or have a unique idea that you would like to make a reality for your big day, just email us at info@pentremawrcountryhouse.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you!

A big thank you to all of our lovely vendors this weekend!

How to make each of your guests feel included in your wedding day!

Whether you have a particularly large family, or you don’t fancy the idea of lots of bridesmaids or groomsmen, it can be difficult to ensure each one of your guests feels included in your wedding day. There are so many people to say hi to that you may not be able to spend as much time chatting to everyone as you’d like. Over the years, we’ve seen some great ideas that couples have come up with so that their wedding day incorporates everyone in some way or another. Some may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how a little task for each of your guests can make them feel they have helped shape the day. Have a read below for our top tips.

Making and leaving out biodegradable confetti!

Recently, we shared a Facebook post about the importance of using biodegradable confetti, for example, by using seasonal leaves. Use the opportunity to make your own confetti with those who don’t have an ‘official’ role in your wedding. Maybe you would like to throw a Wedding Prep-Party, where your wider group of friends can have a laugh, drink and help you with confetti making! Place your biodegradable confetti in some organza bags (you’ll find cheap ones on eBay!) and give to your wedding guests. A simple idea but really effective!

Song Requests

Lots of bridal couples are now ditching the DJs and using their own playlists to ensure their guests dance the night away. We love this idea! But make sure you’re not creating more work for yourself. We recommend allocating one of your guests with a great taste in party music to be in charge of taking on-the-night song requests. Also, you could either email your wedding guests – or ask them on your invitation – to send you one song request per person attending. That way, no one will have an excuse for not getting up and bustin’ some moves, and it reminds each guest that you appreciate their input in the day, even if only for 3 minutes.

Mini-Speeches

Once the important speeches are out of the way, and you’re looking for a bit of post-dinner entertainment, mini-speeches are the way to go. Get one person on each table to read out a pre-written speech. They may be in on the idea, or you could spring it on them on the day by placing a note on their table-setting. The speech could be anything, an inside joke, funny stories, witty poems. It helps to keep everyone included and engaged (even those seated far away from you!)

The Great Wedding Bake-Off

Who needs one cake when you can have many? Ask your guests to put on their pinnies and get baking before the wedding! You can display your multiple wedding cakes and have guests vote on whose is the Number One Wedding Cake. Take the pressure off of finding the perfect wedding cake, and make it an inclusive activity and healthy competition for your nearest and dearest.

A Wedding Hashtag

Your favourite photo from your wedding day may not be from your photographer. It may be that one from your distant cousin, taken at the perfect moment. In which case, you’d want to see it! Create your own wedding hashtag so that all of your Instagram and Facebook pics can be found in one place. Or, just use ours! Add #PentreWeddings to your social media photos taken at any of our weddings, we absolutely love to see how much fun you’ve had here.

Marshmallows around the Fire Pit!

Did you know that our courtyard boasts a gorgeous Fire Pit, perfect for keeping warm when taking a break from the dancing, and roasting some marshmallows at the end of the night. It also makes for a great place for your guests to gather and catch up. Not only does it create some lovely photographs, it’s a lot of fun for everyone to enjoy together.

We hope you’ve enjoyed some of these tips for making all of your guests feel included in your Big Day. Let us know if you are planning to use any or can think of anything that we’ve missed!

Why Pentre Mawr Country House will always be a pet-friendly wedding venue!

On your wedding day, you want to be surrounded by the people who mean the most to you. If you have a pet, it really is part of the family, and we know that one of the most important days of your life should include your four-legged best friends!

Pentre Mawr Country House has a longstanding family history of animal lovers. Horses, cats, dogs (and perhaps even a couple of deer!) have always been at the heart of this beautiful estate, and this has continued into its development into a wedding venue. From ring-bearers to best men, we have helped include countless pets into our couples’ weddings. And for couples who simply want to accommodate their guests’ animals while they dance the night away, all of our rooms are pet-friendly.

“Will be your best friend for a few polos…”

It has been our pleasure to host some of the loveliest furry-friends at Pentre Mawr Country House. If you’re looking for a cuteness overload, look no further than these gorgeous pet pictures from past Pentre weddings. And if you’re looking for a pet-friendly wedding venue, please email us on info@pentremawrcountryhouse.co.uk.

Lots of dogs to accommodate at your wedding? How about a doggy-creche!

This blog post is made in loving memory of our old girl Millie who sadly left us in January this year at the age of 17. We miss you and your stubbornness lots. X

Open day – Sunday 7th April 12pm – 4pm

We’ve had a few changes here at Pentre Mawr Country House recently and we would love to show you what we’ve been up to.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to have an open day (not a Wedding Fair) on 7th of April 2019 from 12pm till 4pm so that you can have a look around. If you’re getting married with us or thinking of getting married with us, the team would love to meet and greet you on Sunday with a glass of bubbles!

As you may be aware, there has recently been a change in the law, and it will soon be possible to get married outside. With that in mind, we’re in the process of creating a beautiful area overlooking the Ha-ha (infinity lawn) for outdoor weddings. We will also be showcasing our bigger and better wedding marquee, rustic reception barns and magical walled garden.

Come and see what we have in store for your Wedding Day. We really look forward to seeing you on 7th of April!

The Night Before You Say ‘I do’…

The night before the wedding is an exciting time for any soon-to-be newlyweds. So why not make the celebrations last as long as possible and have a “party before the party”? A rehearsal (or family and friends) dinner is the perfect opportunity for the bride and groom’s nearest and dearest to break the ice before the hustle and bustle of the big day.

Pentre Mawr couples always come back to us and comment on how happy they are that they had the opportunity to mingle as a combined family in a relaxed environment at their rehearsal dinner. Plus, it gives any out-of-town guests some time to settle in and appreciate our grounds which lie in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Let us take the worry out of your ‘night before’ plans with our beautiful dining rooms and candlelit tables curated by your expert hosts. Bre and Graham have decades of experience in hospitality, so you are most certainly in safe hands. Here at Pentre Mawr, all of our food is cooked to order and whenever possible is sourced locally and seasonally. We can cater for a variety of dietary requests including vegetarian and gluten free.

Not yet convinced? Come and have a look at what Pentre Mawr Country House has to offer you for your rehearsal dinner, and your entire Wedding Celebration. We’d love to hear from you. Call us on 01824 790 732 or email us on info@pentremawrcountryhouse.co.uk

Time To Get Down on Bended Knee- Why You Shouldn’t Overlook A Winter Wedding

Pentre Mawr in the Snow

Here at Pentre Mawr we believe that Christmas truly is the most romantic time of year.  Twinkly lights, frosty mornings and roaring fires are the perfect backdrop for a Winter Wonderland. If  this festive season is the time that you and your significant other decide to tie the knot or a sparkling diamond was awaiting you by the tree on Christmas morning, then consider this time of year for your wedding day.

The Pentre Mawr Wreath on our Front Door.

The Christmas period can be overlooked for weddings, but we cannot think of a more idyllic setting in which to say “I do”, other than underneath the mistletoe. It’s the season for family reunions and festive tipples, two key wedding ingredients.

We love to deck the halls with boughs of holly here at Pentre Mawr, so you can expect wonderful wreaths with frosted tips, glowing trees and mulled wine aplenty! We offer a variety of reception rooms to suit your needs (and all weather conditions!).

Pentre Mawr Wedding Barn in all it’s Christmas finery!

So let us accommodate your Christmas wedding dreams. We’re ready to show you the perfect place to start your wedding planning.  Just give us a quick ring or drop us an email and we’ll put the kettle on!
