Fantastic Weekend”
5 of 5 starsReviewed yesterday

I got married here a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. We book the venue 18 months in advance having fallen for the place the second we found it. I can honestly say the weekend could not have gone any better and Pentre Mawr, as well as Bre and Graham, made the whole event even more special. If I had to do the wedding planning all over again, Pentre Mawr would be the first item on my list.
The rooms were immaculate, and upgraded from our fist visit to include kitchenettes in 3 of the safari lodges. Each room had a hot-tubs, which were loved by our guests and us. The rooms inside the main building there were gorgeous and overall we felt very well looked after by everyone working there. There are 12 rooms and as part of the package you need to fill them all – this will not take you long as they are all so luxurious and any one of them is fit for any type of guest, be it a single guest or a family group.
The meal on the Friday was wonderful and had plenty of interesting and tasty dishes (try the bobotie). There was plenty of room and everyone had a great time relaxing before the big day.
The day itself went off with little going wrong, though this seemed mostly due to Bre organising everyone and everything when needed. One of the grandparents arrived late to the ceremony, we had been waiting to start but this went on for just a little bit too long. Just before the entrance musc was about to begin said grandparent arrived and Graham immediately went to the car go him to get out and into the ceremony before parking the car himself, something we are very grateful for. There are so many things that they do, even if they have included it as part of the deal, that make the day so much better and just a little bit different to most wedding that we can’t think of any better people to run any wedding venue.
The rest of the day ran very smoothly with the wedding breakfast, provided by Cookin’ Good, going down well with the guests. The disco and bar area in the barn were beautifully decorated and everyone had a fantastic time here. It’s worth noting that when we booked the barn was not designed for this, they had revamped the whole thing in between booking and the day. They didn’t charge us any more for anything extra that they had added since we booked, yet still we got to use all of the new stuff including the bell and staying an extra night.
All in all the day was one that no one who was there will forget. One phrase I’ve heard since from at least half of the guests is “real life is so dull in comparison, can you get married there again?” Many guests also complaining that we had ruined all their future weddings as ours was so perfect, something the spectacular nature of the venue and the superb hosting by Bre and Graham contributed to massively.
We hope to return here later in the year so that we can fully enjoy the venue and try out the lodges.

“Understated luxury, perfect wedding location”

Trust your instincts. Wise words that my husband and I are so glad we followed when picking Pentre Mawr as our venue for our wedding on 30th April 2016. The first time we visited Bre & Graham we knew we’d hit the mark straight away, other venues we’d seen online offered only very limited set packages whereas Pentre promised free rein for the bride and groom to design their day as they wished. We immediately loved the vibe of Pentre and its owners. The house is impressive without being overly grand. Like its owners, the place is warm, relaxed and inviting (even the animals race to say hello – alas my plans to steal Rosie the collie came to nothing, she knows she has it good where she is). We sensed straight away that this was our kind of place – the big, overblown wedding was never going to be for us, we were going for understated, relaxed and family-orientated and without sounding too smug, we nailed our venue when we picked Pentre Mawr!
I’ll admit we had concerns over filling the 12 rooms for both the Friday and Saturday nights but in the end we needn’t have worried. All rooms were booked up within days of us sending out the invites (we had many disappointed guests who were too late to secure a safari lodge – they’re sheer luxury!) and every single guest that stayed with us over the weekend has raved about the place. The hot tubs went down a storm! I stayed in Lady Griddlebone with its fabulous four-poster bed and surprisingly slept like a baby the night before the wedding, must have been all those fluffy pillows. Any concerns we had about guests in the lodges having a restless night were completely unfounded. We had couples with toddlers and babies staying next door to childfree couples making the most of the hot tub and prosecco we provided late into the night, and all reported that they slept like logs.
When Bre & Graham say the house belongs to you for the weekend they truly mean it. This is a family run establishment but we were never made to feel like we were intruding on a private home. Bre, Graham and the team were always around when needed, then seamlessly melted away to leave us to eat, drink and chat. The pre-wedding dinner on the Friday night was a lovely opportunity for our two families and close friends to get together. Apparently, it was also my mother’s favourite part of the entire weekend (not the first sight of me in my dress, not watching me exchange vows…!). We had two guests fly in from Dublin and arrive in the middle of the meal; Graham quietly got them settled in their lodge, then arranged for them to join us for coffee. No fuss. The food was beautiful and the pace of the meal really chilled, and my little bridesmaids loved that theirs were served on heart shaped plates – little touches from thoughtful, caring owners. There were many of these throughout the weekend, such as Bre popping her head in on the morning of the Big Day to assure me that my fiancé had eaten a decent breakfast (he had been very ill and struggled to manage much of anything for the past week), flying an Australian flag outside the house to make our bridesmaid feel super welcome, and insisting on making a whole platter of bacon sandwiches for my hair & make-up girls, even though they had twice said they didn’t need anything (they commented that this was the best service they had ever encountered at any wedding they had worked).
Bre & Graham are excellent at what they do, and so obviously care that your day is everything you want it to be; leading up to the wedding they and their team were always available to answer any questions we had, however small or silly. If I had to describe Bre in one word it would be “formidable”. Nothing is too much trouble, there is no problem that cannot be fixed entirely without fuss.
In my eagerness to get down the aisle to my fiancé (and to get out the room before my emotional stepfather made me ruin the make-up artists hard work), I left sans bouquet. Stood in the walled garden, processional music playing, I clocked my error and panicked. Bre did not. She calmly walked into the marquee, cut the music and announced there had been a slight change of plan as the Bride had forgotten her bouquet. Cue a roar of laughter from the assembled guests whilst my (thankfully very fit) bridesmaid Michelle pelted back to my room to retrieve said flowers. I went from being on the verge of tears to howling with laughter. Just the tension breaker I needed, and handled perfectly by Bre, as was the only other hiccup of the day. My hairdressers had accidentally packed up and left with a bag belonging to my Aussie bridesmaid (she of the bouquet rescue) containing her passport and purse. Bre got a hold of the hairdresser, drove to Wrexham to collect the bag from her that evening and the problem was completely resolved before I was even made aware it existed. Service simply doesn’t get any better than that.
The walled garden was the perfect location for the ceremony and a glass of Pimms afterwards with our guests. We booked falconer Rich for straight after the ceremony which was a big hit. The birds were primarily intended to entertain the truckload of children we had, but I think they had to fight the adults to get a look in. The marquee looked great and we were lucky enough to have good weather for the kids to play outside whilst the adults finished their meals (by the fantastic Marc Macauley Catering, one of Pentre’s recommended suppliers). The gorgeous grounds provided a lovely background for our photos. The evening flowed seamlessly through to the barn, where our guests made the most of the bar and disco. We loved that everything was in one location, but we had separate spaces to take us through the different stages of the day.
Several of our friends who did not manage to book rooms at Pentre dropped by again on the Sunday morning to see us before heading home. Even though they were not paying guests, Bre insisted they stay and have a cup of tea with us while we ate our brunch (fantastic spread laid out in the oak room, Graham a master with the eggs).
We simply could not have found a better place to hold our wedding, and Bre & Graham are the proprietors from heaven. We had complete confidence that our day would be a success, mostly because we both knew we’d picked the right person to marry, but also because we had utter trust in Bre, Graham and the whole team at Pentre Mawr. Our instincts were bang on.
Thank you so much to all at Pentre Mawr.
We’ll be back for a lodge and some hot tub time very soon!

Brie and Graham, thank you so much for such an amazing experience! So impressed!

I had the honour of being bridesmaid for Natalie and Daniel at their wedding at Pentre Mawr Country House on 30th April 2016 and I can’t recommend and commend this property enough.

I have been lucky to travel all over the world and stay at fantastic establishments but I was blown away by your hospitality, dedication, commitment and assistance in ensuring every detail of the wedding was flawless not only for the Bride and Groom but for the many guests.

It is truly a wonderful experience being looked after by you both with such care and love in everything that you did. The pre-wedding dinner was impeccable with brilliant food and the wedding day itself was faultless from the ceremony to the reception and the recovery breakfast. I have never seen so many guests be in awe of this wonderful venue and your service.

The service highlight for me was when the makeup artist accidentally took my bag with my passport etc. and you tracked her down and drove a very long distance to collect fit back on the night of the wedding. I appreciate this greatly and this is a small example of just how special your support, care and service is.

I look forward to you writing a book on what should be the benchmark and definition of exceptional customer service and customer value creation. You should start consulting as there are many properties around the world that could learn from you especially the larger chain hotels!

And thank you for the special order of an Australian flag to be hung outside, that was so kind and such a thoughtful gesture for international guests.

Best Wishes,
Michelle, Perth, Western Australia

The Wedding of my dreams

the 9th May 2015 myself and my husband Stephen got married at Pentre Mawr. It was everything I dreamed of and more. This place isn’t just a wedding venue its an experience and one that I will remember fondly for the rest of my life. Bre and Graham (The owners) couldn’t do enough for us. From the amazing rehearsal dinner on the Friday evening which was filled with some of the best food I have ever tasted – to the beautiful grounds for our photo’s the day really was the best day of our lives.

The accommodation is excellent and the hot tubs are an added luxury that I wanted my guests to have. I wanted to get married somewhere different and somewhere that felt like home and that’s how Bre an Graham made us and our families feel.

The Friday evening rehearsal dinner with 40 of our family and friends was probably one of my favourite parts of the whole weekend. Not often done in the UK but I would highly recommend this added extra it made my wedding even more special and I got to celebrate twice 🙂

Bre an Graham were always on hand bringing champagne breakfast for myself and the bridesmaids and taking us on her vintage horse and cart with little Lottie. From start to finish I felt so special and Pentre Mawr was the reason for that.

It truly was the best day of our lives and I owe all of that to Bre, Graham, Pentre Mawr and of course my husband eeeekkk.

5 of 5 starsFirst of all can I thank Bre, Graham, Colette and the rest of the staff at Pentre Mawr for their wonderful service but most of all for the kindness and care they showed in looking after our manic crowd of wedding guests who I’m sure gave them some grey hairs. When my daughter told me she wanted her wedding at Pentre Mawr and that they had to take all the rooms for both nights over the weekend, I was more than a bit worried. I didn’t want to ask our friends to pay for two nights, particularly as most of them lived locally, then Bre and Graham told us they reduce the prices of their fabulous rooms for wedding parties which to tell the truth did help hugely but most of all they assured us that we, as parents would have a stress free weekend and how right they were. When my first daughter got married we had a marquee in our garden, it was beautiful and the wedding went really well but the stress levels for all the parents and our friends was massive. I think I must have made a 100 cups of coffee just the morning of the wedding or it felt like it and while everyone else was having the hair done etc. I was still stressing about the marquee, the flowers, the drinks, in fact everything.

We hoped that daughter number 2 would have her wedding at home too but after our fantastic wedding weekend at Pentre Mawr, daughter number 3 needs to think about a wedding venue…she’s got plenty of time. She’s only 12.

From the second we arrived on Thursday to decorate the immaculate marquee, Bre was on hand with bucks fizz and coffee and cake and her camera capturing all the high jinks. Friday evening dinner was superb, plenty of choice, beautiful presentation and very reasonably priced. Our friends couldn’t get over it and are still talking about catering the night before the wedding. We had cheese and coffee in the lounge after dinner and considering that there were over 40 of us the service was wonderfully relaxed but attentive. Graham was a fabulous host and nothing was too much trouble.
The morning of the wedding was just a pleasure I spent the night with my daughter and her sisters ,Bre and her staff brought our breakfast to the walled garden cottage, a haven tucked away from the rest of the accommodation. More bucks fizz, more photos and loads of laughter.
We got to the church on time and then back for drinks in the walled garden. The weather was dry but cool and the little pony Lottie added to the fun for the happy couple and even the children had rides.
We took Graham’s advice over the caterers and bar who were great but I did notice that Graham hovered around to make sure all ran smoothly, lightening the fire pits and candles as it got dark.
The brunch on Sunday was huge and amazing and we didn’t feel rushed at all but sat around talking and enjoying the chat about the wonderful week we had. Thanks again everyone at Pentre Mawr you couldn’t have done anything more.

Room Tip: If you’re having a wedding at Pentre Mawr don’t worry abut a two night stay. it was brilli…

We had the best time – ever! Family stopped for 2 nights and those that didn’t really wished they had. Pre-wedding get together was as much fun & as much effort was put into it as the wedding day from Bre, Graham & Gang. Nothing was too much trouble, & all the touches they surprised you with throughout the couple of days were perfect. This is run by true professionals that know their job inside out plus some! We live in Oxfordshire so trust was important organising from a distance, not once did it cause us any stress. The safari tents were a great talking point & accommodated a vast range of age groups, the Mother was even impressed!! The new big hot tub was a hoot with the boys & kept them out of trouble the morning of the wedding! Couldn’t recommend highly enough, the time we spent there was faultless, our day is one we will definitely cherish. Beautiful grounds, house is wonderful, food was absolutely fabulous.

Room Tip: Great atmosphere in the tents especially if a group are together. Luxurious, spacious, wonderful bat…

A message to anyone who is thinking of booking their wedding at Pentre Mawr Country House…
Don’t hesitate. Book it now.
Bre, Graham, Connor and the team at Pentre Mawr are so welcoming and supportive, they go above and beyond to make your day run smoothly and it’s all in the setting of the beautiful Welsh countryside.
From the moment we set the date, Bre has been on hand to answer any questions or queries. The venue itself is gorgeous, but you are given free reign to decorate the blank canvas of the marquee any way you would like.
The week building up to the big day was stress free and we were treated like royalty by the team.
The list of ‘perfect partners’ provided inspiration for the suppliers for our wedding day and we had bautiful flowers provided by Haf’s Floral Designs.
The accomodation was amazing and food just wonderful from the meal the night before the wedding to breakfast the morning afterwards.
It was lovely to have all of our wedding guests staying on site too.
The little surprises for us through the week and the day itself just topped it all off… I won’t give too much away!!!
In summary, if you want a relaxed wedding in a beautiful venue with wonderful support to create the wedding of your dreams, then Pentre Mawr is the place for you!

Room Tip: Safari Lodges were really enjoyed by our wedding guests who spent the weekend with us.

We had our wedding at this beautiful venue, September 2014. The whole weekend, was more than we could have wished for. Bre, Graham and gang made our whole family and friends welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms were of a very high standard, as was the food. The venue was just perfect for our vintage themed wedding and certainly heard a few wows along the way. The scenary is breath taking and Bre is always going the extra mile to make your day even more special.
We dont just have special memories of that day, but have a place we I know we will be always welcome.
